What does it mean to “Find My Niche”?

Let’s say you are starting your small business and you need to get your social media going with a strong foundation, or maybe you are establishing yourself as a creator in your community. Finding your niche as a brand or creator on social media is often misunderstood. Let’s see why:

Basically… it’s all about branding.

Let’s dive into the first scenario in which you are a new small business owner. Unfortunately, I see far too often that this group of people will mix their personal pages with their business pages or brand their business page with just themselves. In this case, you and your business are two separate entities, so how do you expect users to find your business if they don’t know you? Let’s say it’s scenario two and you ARE the brand. Have you really defined what you brand represents? These are all considerations when it comes to finding your niche.

Now comes the “finding your niche” part. You are setting up a business and you don’t want to make the mistakes of other small business owners above. This means that you need to identify what topic or industry your page will fall in and then fully immerse yourself into that type of content. For example, if I were to launch my own cosmetics line, and it’s only me in the company, I would still create a whole new page for my business. From there, I would only post content related either to my products, the beauty industry, or some combination thereof. If I were to begin my journey as a travel creator/influencer, then I would still create a separate page or make the commitment to turn my personal page into only travel content. This is finding your niche.

The reason this is all so important is simply for visiblity & searchability. When users search Instagram or Facebook for a certain topic or business they need more info on, the platform needs to be able to identify your content as a match to their search. These platforms can’t do this if you are covering all things all the time.

Pros to Having a Clear Niche for Your Content:

-Search-ability

-Faster/More Efficient Content Planning

-Consistent Brand Voice

-Reinforcement of Your Online Community
